STEVE
I found CrossFit online while working as a support Corpsman for the Naval Special Warfare Command.
As a Navy Hospital Corpsman (Active and Reserve, now retired) for over 21 years, and as a retired law enforcement officer, I've had a first hand opportunity to see the range of conditioning for "operational fitness". Like most of my co-workers I was stuck with inadequate, segmented, moderate-intensity workouts and poorly planned strength development efforts.
Each of us has the need for a conditioning method that not only guards against injury but allows us to excel in anaerobic events (running, fighting, intense or sustained work) that are vital aspects of everyday tasks as well as demanding professions. That linked anaerobic efforts including weightlifting (as functional movements) contribute to our aerobic fitness is what is often lost on the general public. This is training for life.
I've attended the following CrossFit Certs:
Coaches Prep Course
Level 2
Olympic Weightlifting - Burgener
Barbell - Rippetoe
Endurance - Mackenzie
Running - Romanov
Nutrition - Wolf
Science of Exercise - Glassman, J., Kilgore, Rippetoe
Striking - Ryan
Swimming - Nabeta/Michelmore
I've had the opportunity to attend every CrossFit Games, competing in 2007 and 2008 and I've administered the Medical support for all of the CF Games. My affiliate administered (CF Marina along with CF Brand X) the 2009 and 2010 Southwest Regional Qualifier for the CrossFit Games.
The challenge has been made by the CrossFit community worldwide: If you can find a better method of conditioning for general physical preparedness, for real life, use it. It's my hope that we can provide the best means for you to develop both your fitness and health with the best of this method.
